Support Our Troops

My military PTSD short story: Solomon’s Justice

Partly because of my own experience as a new Mrs. Lieutenant in the spring of 1970 during the Vietnam War, I am committed to numerous online activities to support our troops, their families and veterans.

Had I not had this personal experience, I may have been one of the millions of Americans who do not fully appreciate what our military men and women and their families contribute and sacrifice to keep our country safe.

Besides owning a debt of gratitude to our own military personnel and that of our alliance partners, we owe much to the men and women around the world who risk their lives daily because they believe that American democracy is the best hope for the survival of our civilization as we know it. These people wear no uniforms, have no armies to protect their lives, and are often sacrificed because of unintentional blunders.

Having worked as a GS-3 for counterintelligence in the 66th Military Intelligence Group when my husband and I were stationed in Munich, Germany, from September 1970 to May 1972, I also know that the threats to our American way of life are very real. More real than we would really like to know.

If you follow me on Twitter you will notice that some of my tweets include the hashtag #sot — Support Our Troops. Also you may notice #milmon — Military Monday — special tweets on Monday from those of us active on Twitter who support our troops.

My primary outreach effort is to encourage people to get help for PTSD. You can read about symptoms of PTSD (which can be induced by trauma other than combat) at my In Support of Our Troops site, which has information about films and documentaries portraying the military experience.

My site Operation Support Jews in the Military is to encourage the American Jewish community to support Jewish men and women who serve all over the world, often very far from any Jewish community. The blog on the site occasionally has posts from Jewish military personnel.

I am also a member of the Military Writers Society of America.
