Preparing affiliate information is a part of an online product launch: Day 22

Partnership definitionWhile I’m still wrestling with other elements of the July 1st launch of the Miller Mosaic Internet Marketing Program, I needed to start working on the affiliate portion of the launch.

What’s the affiliate portion? Here’s an overview of the affiliate model I’m using:

I create an information product that I’m going to sell off my own website. And you have a website whose fans/customers/clients could benefit from my product as you don’t have the same product.

You promote my product on your site with a special affiliate link from your site to the product page on my site.

You get that special affiliate link through my shopping cart vendor, which also tracks all the people who buy my product after clicking on your link. If the purchaser comes from your site through your affiliate link, you get a percentage of that sale. The purchaser pays the exact same amount whether coming from my site or yours.

These relationships are not secret. In fact, some sites solicit affiliates right on the sites. (I will email potential affiliate partners.)

The idea is that, as I believe in my product, I want as many people as possible to know about it. And I can achieve a much wider viewer distribution if other websites help me get the word out. To do this, I can provide product copy for my affiliate partners or they can write their own copy.

Without going into a lot of details, let me add my own belief about being an affiliate of someone’s product: You should only be an affiliate of a product you have used or believe in.

I’ve been working on the Miller Mosaic Internet Marketing Program copy for affiliates to use on their own site, and I’m using a “before” photo and an “after” photo to drive home the main product premise: The Miller Mosaic Internet Marketing Program will take away the pain of being overwhelmed by internet marketing information.

What else have I been doing?

• My guest post “How Authors Can Use Their Books as a Basis for an Internet Business” went live at TheCreativePenn.com.

• Reviewed Internet marketing material I’ve collected in a three-ring binder, looking for interesting websites and new ideas for Internet marketing.

• Updated some of my online profiles, which is an ongoing task for all of us.

• Tried out spacky.com, a free keyword search estimator tool. It’s simple to use and returned interesting results for my search term.

Important note added June 23rd:

Brian Clark on Copyblogger.com just posted “How to Turn Affiliate Marketing Disclosure Into a Selling Point.” After reading this post, I immediately added this sentence to my recommended resources list here:  The above recommendations include affiliate links.
