Are You Demonstrating Your Expertise?

by Phyllis Zimbler Miller

In the old days — before massive adoption of online interaction — outside of the various formats for advertising, you did not have numerous opportunities to actually demonstrate your expertise or your product’s benefits before asking people to buy your services or product.

Today, thanks to such online opportunities as YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, you do have numerous opportunities to showcase your knowledge or your product BEFORE you ask people to invest in you.

How to do this?

If you have a product with moving parts, for example, putting a short demonstration video on YouTube and then sharing the YouTube link on your social media accounts would be a good idea.

You can add videos over time to your YouTube channel that show new uses for the product, if appropriate, and even video testimonials from customers who use the product.

If you have a unique service (I just met a woman who has two very unique and very different services) you could make a short video for each service explaining what the service is and how you do it.

You could also write a short ebook and publish it via Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) platform. The goal here would NOT be to sell books but to “gift” prospective clients with your ebook to demonstrate what you do and why it should be of interest to them.

(Miller Mosaic provides services to help with publishing and marketing on Amazon.)

Now you might be saying to yourself that I often blog about NOT selling but instead sharing on social media. Aren’t the above examples selling?

Actually, no. You are NOT saying buy my service or product. You are sharing how the service or product works or what people who have tried your service or product think about the service or product.

For an example of this,
watch the video above of NJ realtor Chuck Hendershot talking about our Miller Mosaic services. He talks about his skepticism and how he followed our advice and now is a believer. (And in the process he discovered he is terrific at sharing information on video.)

Think about your service or product and how you can demonstrate your expertise or the product’s benefits. Check out opportunities to create your own online shows, such as on rivvid.com and blogtalkradio.com

Whatever you do, do NOT conduct your business as if we still lived in the era before all these opportunities on the Internet. Seize the day by taking advantage of the Internet to demonstrate your expertise or your product’s benefits.
