5 Tips for a Successful Product Launch

A successful product launch starts with creating or identifying a product that you wish to sell.
This can be a physical product that requires shipping or a digital download product that is immediately available once the product has been purchased.
Here are five areas that you should consider when launching a product online:
• Consider the timing of a successful product launch.
Depending on what the product is, you’ll want to decide whether to launch it on a weekday or on the weekend.
Is there a tie-in with a national holiday?
Do you want to launch it in conjunction with someone else’s product?
Do you want to launch it as an add-on to a product you’re already selling?
• Will you have a lower introductory price for a short time and then raise the price to the full product price?
Maybe you’d rather give bonuses with the product launch rather than have a lower introductory price. The bonuses can be offered only for a short period of time.
Perhaps you want to give away the product to the first 10 people who sign up to purchase it.
Perhaps you want to have a contest to win the free product.
• Are you going to have affiliates selling this product?
While on the surface it would seem that having affiliates sell the product makes sense, perhaps there’s a good reason not to do this.
Perhaps you want to at first only offer the product to your own customers. You’re rewarding your own customers by giving them first crack at the product. A month or two later you’ll open the sale of the product to customers coming from affiliates.
• Do you want to offer a second product on the purchase receipt of the first product?
Perhaps your new product launch has a natural product extension that purchasers of the first product would also be interested in purchasing. Do you offer this second product at the same time as you offer the first product? Or do you wait until the first product has been purchased before offering the second product?
• Do you want to offer the product for review by bloggers?
If you have a good product, this would seem a natural publicity strategy. If your product isn’t good and therefore unlikely to get a good review, why are you launching the product in the first place?
Perhaps you give bloggers an early peek at the product to get feedback that you can use to tweak the product before launching. You ask for feedback without a review with the promise that, after you’ve tweaked the product, the bloggers will get the opportunity to write a review based on the re-engineered product. This, then, provides a win-win scenario for you and the bloggers.
